THE NEW NARRATIVE
The New Narrative are a new, up and coming marketing and PR agency based in Birmingham. They only began in 2016 and have since then been able to work with local companies as well as popular restaurants such as Marco Pierre White’s. The agency help companies improve their social media presence in a way that will help target their chosen audience and market their products or services in the most effective manner.
I enjoyed my time at The New Narrative as I was able to produce practical media work within the industry for the first time. I was extremely grateful to be able to work with media professionals in the marketing industry as it was something I knew little about at the time and was able to gain multiple skills such as communication and organisation. I was involved in the My Ebony Box company helping them to promote their product and business through social media. My Ebony Box is a monthly subscription service where the customer would receive different beauty products every month. Their target market is women of colour and their aim is to make all women feel beautiful. The main importance to them was to be able to portray their values through their social media: empowering all women. This project was incredibly interesting to work on and I enjoyed planning their Instagram posts and blogs for their website. Examples of work
Social Media Planner:
This is a plan of the captions and photos that My Ebony Box would post for one month on Instagram. The photos and captions had to engage the audience as well as promoting the products and company.
Blog Planner:
This is a plan of blogs for My Ebony Box over the course of four weeks. The topics of the blogs revolve around beauty, powerful women and the promotion of the products in a way that would appear engaging, and not repetitive to the audience.
THE EXPRESS AND STAR
The Express and Star are a local newspaper covering nation news as well as local new covering the West Midlands. They are based in Wolverhampton City Centre and are present on multiple media platforms such as print, online and via social media. Their online presence has been a major improvement in the popularity of their content as this makes it more accessible to their audience.
During my time at the Express and Star I was given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the journalism industry for the first time. I was extremely excited and grated of having had received this opportunity and went into it with confidence and curiosity. The Express and Star enabled me to produce online content and draft articles for both their website and newspaper. This experience enhanced my software skills and enabled me to make use of my knowledge from my degree of writing and advertising in order to produce articles to the best of my ability. The company were pleased with my work and used my draft articles to produce content for their website. The articles included the promotion of small and local businesses and articles concerning music and other entertainment events suitable for their audience. Unfortunately, due to the software, I was unable to obtain any of the articles to showcase myself. However, it was an engaging and enjoyable experience that excited me to work in the media industry in the future.
